Conservation, wildlife, and landscape photographer Larry Rogers has been photographing striking scenes around America for more than 40 years. In this title, fifth in his series ‘A Photographer’s Journey,’ he shares many of his favorite images in the genre ‘Americana,’ along with a number of photo tips and stories recalling his experiences in these wonderful places. The idea for America: No Hiking Required was spawned from a personal experience. Larry received a phone call one day from a close family member who was driving through the state of Utah. In the car were the parents and two children in their teens. They were looking for Larry’s best idea for which of Utah’s five national parks could be seen from the car during a one-day driving trip. That request prompted Larry to modify his thinking about why he shares his best images and stories about getting outside to experience wonderful places. After that call, Larry realized that many people do not have the free time that he does to travel and experience America’s great landscapes and wild places. For a number of years, Larry had the same constraint - work, family, and life simply took up most of his time. He prioritized getting outside to see places he had not previously seen, and he was able to set aside one to two weeks each year for this purpose. But after that phone call, he understood that many people simply cannot do that. So, the idea for this book was born. In planning the content for America: No Hiking Required, Larry reviewed his entire library of images, searching for those that communicate the culture and history of America while also showing its beauty in an artful way. A filter that he applied in selecting images for this book was location and ability to get to each of the locations by car, and once there to be able to stand at the point where he took the photo without walking more than 500 yards or wearing special hiking shoes or clothing. Larry hopes this book will inspire the reader to get outside, see and experience places that would otherwise not have been experienced. If only a few who read this book are further inspired to become stewards for America’s most beautiful and vulnerable places, he will have been successful. The book has over 50 high resolution color images over a total of 56 pages in large (8 ½ x 11 inches) softcover format. Topics include traces of ancient cultures, Native American lands, national celebrations, historic Route 66, vintage American towns, lighthouses, wild lands, and historic covered bridges still in use since the days of horse and buggy. Enjoy your reading journey across America!
